Your Prayers can Change the Future Of the Middle East and North Africa
Nicosia, Cyprus- Jesus said, "if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." While this challenge from Christ seems daunting for us, in Egypt local Christians have a story that vividly illustrates the principle.
According to Church tradition, hundreds of years ago a ruler of Egypt reminded the Christians living under him about this very verse. He said, "I know in your Bible it says you if you have just a tiny amount of faith you can move a mountain," and he challenged them to move a mountain in Cairo. If they could not move it, he would have them all killed.
The Egyptian followers of Jesus fasted and cried out to God, and on the appointed deadline, a massive earthquake shook the city. According to the story, the mountain moved and the Christians were saved!
While it is hard to verify this tale, the story has been told for centuries in Cairo, and today a beautiful Coptic Orthodox Church which commemorates the event is literally carved into the base of the mountain, called "Mokattam Mountain." SAT-7’s Cairo studio sits on top of the same mountain.
Today God is still using prayer to change the lives of his people in Egypt, and throughout all of the Middle East and North Africa. SAT-7 itself needs prayer to continue in the work God has for the ministry. SAT-7 staff are asking Christians around the world to join in prayer and fasting on June 1, 2008. The day is marked as the Second Annual Day of Prayer for SAT-7, its Audiences and Partners.
Would you be willing to join in prayer for SAT-7 on that day? On June 1st a number of SAT-7 television hosts will thank millions of viewers for their prayers and encourage them to keep praying. The ministry hopes that many churches throughout the region and the world will take a moment to remember the needs of the region, and the ways God is using SAT-7 to build and strengthen His church. We urgently request your prayers for the situation in Lebanon and for our team working there.
For more ideas on how you can pray for SAT-7, its audiences and Partners, please go to www.sat7.org and click on the Day of Prayer banner on the right side of the page. On this site you can also download posters and find out ways to tell others about this event.
Thank you for your prayers! Together we can move mountains.
