SAT-7 Broadcasts Mega-Conference LIVE from Egypt
Famous Christian athletes came to the festival from across Egypt and set up booths to entertain attendees. Power-lifters, stunt men on bikes, karate experts, basketball players, and drama and musical teams all exhibited their talents for onlookers. Athletes shared their Christian testimonies. While mainly the festival was designed to touch the hearts of people across the region, specifically through the live broadcasts provided by SAT-7.
At the end of each day, festival-goers gathered for a time of personal reflection and to hear a message that clearly presented the good news of the Gospel. Moved by a worship service, an Egyptian man wrote, “We touched the heavens with our hands on that day.”
During the worship services, testimonies of viewers were shown to the audience and via the SAT-7 channels.
One testimony came from Madonna, a young adult from the Cairo neighborhood of Dar al-Salam. A SAT-7 camera crew went to Madonna's home to film her testimony, winding through the tight alleyways of one of Cairo's poorest districts. Madonna said, "When I was a child, I didn't love God because I was the only one from among my friends who did not have a father." Madonna shared about her father's sudden death, fighting with her mother, their financial strain, her suicide attempt and the disappointment of being fired from her job. Madonna was watching School of Christ on SAT-7 when the presenter, the Rev. Sameh Maurice told Madonna that God cared about even the smallest details of her life. She prayed and asked God to tell her that she was His daughter. She went to church and the speaker that night said, “You are a daughter of God.” Madonna recognized this as an answer to prayer, laughed, and was filled with joy. She said, “This was the first time in my life that I felt I was not alone. He is beside me, and He is my father."
For the first time, SAT-7 broadcast Count It Right LIVE on both its two Arabic channels and on YouTube. An Egyptian woman living in the USA shared, “Thank you all for making it possible for us in the USA to be with you and watch this great event.” Another viewer wrote from overseas: “Truly, may God bless you, SAT-7. I am outside Egypt, but I felt as if I was in Beit el Wadi [the conference center].”
The Kasr El Dobbarah Evangelical Church in Cairo, in association with the Luis Palau Association launched five years ago in order to present the Gospel to the Arab World in unconventional ways. The broadcast of this gathering of famous athletes, guest speakers, and a huge crowd provided an opportunity to demonstrate to an audience of millions how God’s Word is relevant and integral to modern society in the Middle East and North Africa.
Prior to broadcasting Count It Right, SAT-7 covered another mega-conference at Wadi El Natroon from 4 to 6 October. SAT-7 aired LIVE footage from One Thing, an outreach event for young people. Over 9,000 people attended each of the three days of the conference! Attendees heard challenging messages from Bible teachers and participated in worship led by Christian singers from Egypt and other parts of the Arab world. After the mega-conference, many wrote to SAT-7 requesting that videos of One Thing be uploaded online. Those who could not attend the conference wanted to watch it for the first time, and many who attended wanted to relive the experience.
