SAT-7’s Contribution to Arab Democracy

Terry Studio Pict We hear much talk of “democracy” across the Arab World in these days. But what are the elements that make for true democracy?

Democracy is, of course, much more than multi-party elections and the right to vote! For Democracy to work, a country also needs an educated and informed electorate, which in turn needs a free and fair press, which in turn needs a strong and independent judiciary. And, all of these “institutions” of democracy can only survive if there is a strong but accountable security apparatus to maintain law and order.

Unknown Family

"When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, 'Give this person your seat.' " Luke 14:8,9

TV Terminology

Dear Friend of SAT-7,

Allow me to introduce you to some TV terminology:

"Traffic" is often a term used to describe automobiles congesting a roadway (a constant problem in Cairo!).  But in the television industry, "traffic" is defined as the way in which programs, commercial spots , announcements and other video elements are moved from a production center, to storage (usually on tape or digital formats) and then onto the screen at exactly the time they are scheduled to broadcast.

Free Indeed

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” John 8:36

All Means Possible

“I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel…”

1 Corinthians 9:22-23

Not Ashamed

“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15

In many ways this Bible verse encapsulates the SAT-7 Ethos.  We are Christians, and we “are not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes,” Romans 1:12.

Seeing Jesus Clearly

This next week Christians around the world will remember Christ’s death and resurrection.  It will be reenacted in various “Passion Plays” ranging from animated tales, to puppet shows, to people allowing real nails to be hammered into their own flesh to commemorate Christ’s death on the cross (an horrific annual tradition in part of the Philippines).
